5 Safety Tips for Halloween

Oct 13, 2015

Its that time of the year when all of those ghouls and goblins, princesses and princes, fairies and queens come out to ask more of that delicious candy. For many kids it’s a great and exciting time of year. They get the opportunity to escape who they are and get to dress up and become someone else for a night or two.

While letting them roam the streets in search of those sugary treats, be sure they know to be safe. Here are 5 quick safety tips for Halloween.

  1. Always walk from house to house. Don’t run!

Remind them to walk from house-to-house. You never know what kind of crazy decorations people put in their yards.

  2. Only visit houses whose porch lights are on.

Communities always remind residents to turn their porch light on if they want to have trick-or-treaters. So, those residents who don’t have their lights on may be a little irritated with trick-or-treaters coming to their house. It’s always a better idea to visit homes with their lights on.

  3. If you are wearing a dark costume, wear reflectors so that vehicles can see you.

Dark costumes can be very hard at night to see. Be sure that either there is something that is giving off light on the costume or that you have some sort of reflector, so that cars can see them in them.

  4. Never accept rides from strangers.

Never accept rides from strangers at any time. Hammer this one home with your kids. Ask them questions often about it. You can never be too careful.

  5. Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

It is always a good idea for kids and adults to do things in groups when out at night. Safety is of the utmost importance.

Kids can never be too careful when out trick-or-treating. Make sure they know the best ways to stay safe!

The Way Martial Arts will be hosting our indoor Kick’r Treat event on October 29, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Bring the kids by so that they can trick-or-treat inside our facility getting candy from local vendors. They’ll get to have fun with some of our activities on our martial arts mat. Come at six, stay the whole time if you would like! Just be sure to be there.
