About Our Academy

I started The Way Martial Arts because of the incredible and life-changing results I have seen in my own life. I simply would not be the person I am today without my training in martial arts and the confidence, leadership, discipline, and respect the martial arts has taught me. I have always wanted to make sure other people had the opportunity to find an outlet that could make such an impact on the way they live their lives. This has been a dream of mine since I was 13 and I embrace and appreciate each and every student who trains at The Way Martial Arts. The vibrant community that exists on the Westside of Indianapolis made for a great place to open my martial arts school. We are located on the westside of Indianapolis just east of Avon. We love the community that we serve.

Our dojang (Taekwondo school) was created to provide a safe, fun, and instructional environment that builds confidence in our students as they go through life. Our Indianapolis Taekwondo program will help you achieve your goals, whether that’s physical, mental, or spiritual.

The Way Martial Arts teaches a mix of Taekwondo, Karate, Jeet Kune Do, and basic self-defense. We offer classes for both kids and adults. The typical beginning age for a child is around the age of 5. It’s at this age that a child’s attention span is focused enough to begin learning and enjoying the benefits of martial arts.

About Mr. Jordan Brown

RANK: 5th Degree Black Belt and Senior Instructor

Mr. Brown is in love with teaching martial arts. He has been a student for more than 20 years. He’s been teaching it for more than 18 years. Mr. Brown has trained in Taekwondo, Karate, Jeet Kune Do and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

He began his training with a Karate class in 1995. Although he didn’t sign up right away, he was hooked on the martial arts. A few months later in 1996 he noticed a Taekwondo school had opened up just down the road from him. He begged his dad to take him in to sign up. He went in to do his first lesson and was instantly in love. He loved the kicks, the fluidity of movement and the way could express himself and be free. He continued training consistently and in 1998 earned his 1st Degree Black Belt.

In college he got the opportunity to train in Karate and Jeet Kune Do and fell in love again with martial arts in a different way. He loved the difference in the technique. He loved that with Jeet Kune Do, it wasn’t about certain ways you had to perform a self-defense technique, but to do what actually worked.

In 2005, he wanted to open a martial arts school. Having recently moved to Indianapolis, he began looking into and discovering details of what it would take. To his chagrin, he realized that it would be too costly for him to open a business.

He continued training and focused on competition. In 2007 – 2009 he was ranked in the top ten in the world in the American Taekwondo Association. He loved competing and loved training to get better everyday.

In 2010, he married his favorite person, Kylin Brown. At that time he hung up his traveling competition gear and focused more on building a family. He still competed, but not with the same intensity as before. In June of 2011, both Kylin and Mr. Brown sat down with the pastor of Life Church in Indianapolis for lunch to talk. It was at this time that Life Church offered the Browns a room in the church to use as a martial arts school.

In August of 2011 he began preparing to open a school and on May 19 of 2012 he opened The Way Martial Arts with it’s inaugural Open House. With 0 students he began the process of seeking students to train in Taekwondo and show how the martial arts could change their lives.

In April of 2013, The Way Martial Arts joined the Ultimate Leadership Martial Arts Association. This began the true building of The Way Martial Arts. Mr. Brown was able to make great connections with other wonderful martial arts school owners and began learning the ins and outs of the business.

In 2015, he tested and received the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in the Ultimate Leadership Martial Arts Association. Mr. Brown continues to train hard and looks forward to being eligible to test for 6th Degree Master Instructor in June of 2020.

About Our Instructors

Our Instructors are dedicated to continually bettering themselves, and in turn, the other students of the Academy. There are 6 Levels of the Instructor Program. At each level, instructors get more responsibility and experience in teaching this art. Our instructors are trained to work with students and to help them achieve their goals. In Leadership and Instructor Training Seminars, Instructors have a chance to hone their skills through different exercises, role-play drills, and seminar based teaching. While a student can become an instructor at the Green Belt Level, Instructors can not teach classes until they are well trained Black Belt Students as well!
